WOOD CARVING IN VIETNAM

BAT TRANG CERAMIC VILLAGE IN HANOI - VIETNAM

Bat Trang ceramic village is situated on the Red River Bank, 10 km from the heart of Hanoi capital. The village is marvelous place for a good choice of shopping ceramic products made in Vietnam. The village of Bat Trang is around 500 years old.



Craft families including 5 clans of Tran, Vuong, Nguyen, Le, Pham immigrated to this place and settled the village in 15th century. People in the clans still maintain the traditional job of making ceramic products for domestic use as well as for export.



To start from the Old quarter in Hanoi you move along river bank, then after 30 minutes arrival Bat Trang ceramic village. In Bat Trang ceramic village you stroll around to visit traditional house, shops, and ceramic market. You also can learn how to prepare clay and form a product under the guidance from a master of ceramics.



Beside walking you can hire a bicycle to tour around the village. At lunch time, try the local food and drink such as fried spring rolls, bamboo shoots cooked with squid, grilled fish in banana leaves, fresh water crab soup with vegetable... in an old house.
